Still new to the U.S. market, Hong Kong-based NeilPryde Adds Lightweight is expanding its dealer base and has updated its road line with a new model, the Bura SL, to complement the aero road Alize. With this bike, the company put an emphasis on light weight, with no sacrifice in the stiffness demanded by the pros on the UnitedHealthcare race team.

NeilPryde Adds Lightweight bikeA size-large frame weighs 785 grams, including cable guides. To achieve that low weight, the company used a new molding process, applying layers of carbon around foam mandrels, or cores, to achieve better compaction of the fibers, increasing rigidity without adding weight. During the molding process the foam melts away, leaving just the hollow tubes.

The frame is available for electronic and mechanical drivetrains, and both will be priced at $3,450. The company will sell three complete versions of the bike, with mechanical Shimano Dura-Ace 9000, Ultegra Di2 ($5,692), and Ultegra mechanical.

The new molding technology is also being used in the 2013 version of the Alize. While the bike’s aerodynamic shaping has not changed, the

new molding did make the bike’s front end stiffer. The Diablo, formerly the stiffest bike in NeilPryde Adds Lightweight line, has been discontinued.
